Hazard Watch is a read-only public map. By default it collects no personal data on a server. This page is specific about the few exceptions, in line with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP) principles — consent, purpose limitation, and a real deletion path.
This is a free public-good service. It is declared noncommercial. It has no paid tier and no advertising. It offers no insurer or commercial product. Sources and terms
What stays on your device only
Your language choice, low-bandwidth setting, and any saved places live in your browser's local storage. They are never sent to a server, never linked to an identity, and never shared. Clearing them below removes them completely.
Push alerts — only if you ask for them
Alert delivery is opt-in. If you subscribe to push notifications for a place, your browser creates an anonymous push token (no name, phone, or email) that we store solely to deliver the hazard alerts you asked for — purpose limitation, in DPDP terms. You can withdraw consent at any time by turning off notifications for this site in your browser, which stops delivery immediately (the token can no longer receive anything); the stored token is deleted on request via the grievance path below, and — once delivery is live — automatically when a push comes back permanently rejected.
What we never collect
- No accounts, names, phone numbers, or emails are required to use the map.
- No third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
- Map basemap tiles are served by OpenStreetMap and weather by Open-Meteo; those requests are subject to their own privacy terms, and carry no identity from us.
Your rights & contact
Under the DPDP Act you may access, correct, or erase any personal data a service holds about you. Because we hold essentially none — and nothing that identifies you — most of this is satisfied by the on-device controls above. For anything else, or to raise a grievance, open an issue on the project repository.
